Scholarships:
Universities offer a range of options for scholarships both for bachelor's and master's level international students, as the first academic year the scholarship covers 50% of the tuition fee. In the following academic years, the scholarship covers 50% of the tuition fee if a student earns required credits for the program.
Post Study Work Visa:
2 Years after completion of Bachelor’s or Master’s.
Part Time work/Student Jobs
International Students can also work for 30 hours per week (part-time) on average during the academic year and work full time with no restrictions during holidays.
• The students are allowed to work part time but are restricted to do such jobs only that are related to their study course.
Typically, the current minimum wage in the cleaning branch is €7-8 per hour. The average hourly wage amongst industrial worker is about €14 per hour.
Students with Finnish language skills are entitled for higher wages as compared to the students having no skills.

- Your passport must have a validity that exceeds the duration of the visa or residence permit you are applying for by at least 3 months.
- Travel Health Insurance (Click to offical site!) The required amount of insurance depends on the duration of your studies in Finland.
- If your studies take less than two years, your insurance must cover medical expenses up to EUR 120,000.
- If your studies take at least two years, your insurance must cover pharmaceutical expenses up to EUR 40,000.
- Documentation of paid tuition fee or documentation of scholarship.
- Living Expenses of € 8000 per year to be shown for living expenses + entire duration of the program fees has to be shown in the student’s savings account only

- You should attach a bank statement to your application, showing that you have the necessary funds in your bank account. The bank statement must show the name of the account holder, the name of the bank, and the currency (Student’s Account).
- You must have the necessary funds in student’s bank account that is in your personal use only.
- Sponsorship agreements provided by relatives, friends or employers are not acceptable. The funds must be in student’s own bank account.

AMENDED LAW: Easing entry and retention of international students in Finland
Under a new act, students and their family members arriving in Finland from abroad will obtain a residence permit for the entire duration of their studies. The law will also make it easier to apply for work after graduation. However, students will still be responsible for their livelihood throughout their studies.
Main points in the amended law:
- Students will be granted a residence permit for the entire length of their studies
- Foreign students’ right to work during their studies will increase from the average of 25 hours to 30 hours a week.
- The type of permit for students studying for a higher education degree will change from temporary (B) to continuous (A), which will make it easier to obtain a permanent residence permit. According to the legislative reform, the family members of the student will also receive a continuous (A) permit.
- Students will still be required to provide proof of a secure means of subsistence, but only for one year. However, they will be responsible for their livelihood throughout their residency.
- Tuition fees will continue to be charged of students arriving in Finland from third countries. Read the press release here.
