The medical university of varna (mu-varna) is a bulgarian state school for higher education dedicated to training specialists in the fields of medicine and healthcare who graduate with the educational and qualification degrees of master, bachelor and professional bachelor. The university has a legal entity status with the following scope of business activities: training of cadres and professional qualification; training of phd students; postgraduate education for medical and non-medical cadres; conducting medical diagnosis, prevention, consultation, rehabilitation, and expert services at the university hospitals; scientific research and applied sciences; international cooperation in the field of education and science; administrative, social, sport, publishing, information, and other activities.

The medical university of varna is the first university in bulgaria to implement the efqm® model for business excellence of the european foundation for quality management in 2008. The diplomas issued by the university are recognised in all the european union countries.

ADMISSION & ELIGIBILITY


To be admitted to the medical university of varna (vmu), you must meet the following requirements:

  • High school diploma

You must have a high school diploma or equivalent with a minimum c grade (62%) in biology and chemistry. 

  • Entrance exam

You must pass a science-based entrance exam that tests your knowledge of biology and chemistry. 

  • English proficiency

If you are not a native english speaker, you must pass an english proficiency test. 

  • Language proficiency certificate

You must provide a recognized language proficiency certificate. 

Entrance exam

  • The entrance exam is online and consists of multiple-choice, gap-filling, matching, true/false, and definition questions. 
  • The exam tests your high school knowledge of biology and chemistry. 
  • Non-eu citizens must have an average mark of at least 65% in biology and chemistry. 

Language proficiency certificate 

  • You can provide a certificate that demonstrates your english proficiency, such as an ielts, toefl, pte academic, or esol international score.

Application process

  • You can complete the online application provided by the university. 
  • You must submit the required documents to the admission department. 

 

 

FEE STRUCTURE

The tuition fees for the medical university of varna (mu-varna) in bulgaria for the 2024/2025 academic year are as follows: 

  • Medicine and dental medicine in english:
    • First and second year: 17,602.47 bgn (9,000 eur) 
    • Third to sixth year: 15,646.64 bgn (8,000 eur) 
  • Pharmacy in english: 6,000 eur per year 
  • Preparatory course in english language: 4,000 eur per year 

Tuition payment 

  • Sixth-year students can pay their tuition fee in two equal payments
  • Tuition fees can be paid by bank transfer, but a transfer fee may apply

Accommodation 

  • Dormitory accommodation is available for students and is typically around €70 per month
  • Private apartments are also available for rent in varna, with rent generally ranging from €350 to €450 per month

DOCUMENTS REQUIRED FOR ADMISSION

To be admitted to the medical university of varna (vmu) in bulgaria, you'll need to submit the following documents:

  • Application form: a completed, printed, and signed application form 
  • Secondary school diploma: an original or notarized copy of your high school diploma 
  • Secondary school transcript: a copy of your high school transcript with final marks 
  • Eligibility certificate: a document from your high school certifying that you are eligible to continue your education 
  • Financial support declaration: a declaration from your parents that they will financially support you during your studies 
  • Passport: a valid copy of your passport with your photo and data 
  • Passport photos: five recent passport-sized color photos 
  • Medical certificate: a medical certificate 
  • Entrance exam scores: scores from the entrance exam in biology and chemistry 
  • Language proficiency certificate: a certificate or test of english language proficiency if you are not a native english speaker 

Documents that are not in bulgarian or issued by bulgarian institutions must be translated, legalized, and certified.
