ABOUT UNIVERSITY

The university of geneva (french: université de genève) is a public research university located in geneva, switzerland. It was founded in 1559 by french theologian john calvin as a theological seminary. it remained focused on theology until the 17th century, when it became a center for enlightenment scholarship. Today, it is the third largest university in switzerland by number of students.

In 1873, it dropped its religious affiliations and became officially secular in 2009, the university of geneva celebrated the 450th anniversary of its founding. almost 40% of the students come from foreign countries.

The university holds and actively pursues teaching, research, and community service as its primary objectives. Unige is a member of the league of european research universities (including academic institutions such as amsterdam, barcelona, cambridge, heidelberg, and milan) the coimbra group and the european university association.

The university has a diverse student body, with students from over 150 countries. It is also home to numerous research centers and institutes, including the global studies institute, and the institute of global health

ADMISSION & ELIGIBILITY

To be admitted to the university of geneva, international students must meet the following eligibility requirements:

Academic records: provide academic transcripts and a study plan that includes a list of chosen courses
Letters of recommendation: submit letters of recommendation
Language proficiency: provide proof of proficiency in english or french
Standardized test scores: submit scores from standardized tests, such as the ielts, toefl, gmat, or gre
Passport: provide a copy of your passport and a color passport photo
Motivation letter: submit a letter of motivation

FEE STRUCTURE

Fees amount to chf 500 per semester (chf 65 in fixed fees and chf 435 in administrative fees), payable in a single installment.

Any reductions you are entitled to by your status e.g., leave of absence, internship, doctoral studies will be automatically applied to the amount due;
Requests for fee relief due to financial difficulties must be submitted to the service social et finances.

SCHOLARSHIP

The university of geneva (unige) offers a variety of scholarships for both swiss and international students. These scholarships can be merit-based, need-based, or awarded for other criteria.

Merit-based scholarships

University of geneva excellence master fellowships: a one-year grant of chf 10,000–15,000 per year for academically successful students
Ritchie-jennings memorial scholarship program: a scholarship for master's students
Education for sustainable energy development (esed) scholarship: a merit-based scholarship for master's students
International conference scholarship: a merit-based scholarship for master's students

DOCUMENTS REQUIRED FOR ADMISSION

The university of geneva (unige) requires the following documents for admission:

Transcripts: provide transcripts of grades for previous studies, including secondary school and university
Diploma certificate: provide a copy of your secondary school diploma certificate
Curriculum vitae: provide a curriculum vitae (cv) or europass cv
Motivation letter: provide a motivation letter in english
Proof of english language proficiency: provide proof of english language proficiency, such as a toefl, ielts, or cambridge advanced certificate (c1) score
Degree certificate: provide a copy of your bachelor's degree or other degrees, if applicable

The requirements may vary depending on the program. For example, the master of science in economics program requires a toefl, ielts, or cambridge advanced certificate (c1) score. The master of science in business analytics program requires proof of english language proficiency at a minimum level of b2.
