ABOUT UNIVERSITY
The university of iceland (icelandic: háskóli íslands [ˈhauːˌskouːlɪ ˈistlan(t)s]) is a public research university in reykjavík, iceland, and the country's oldest and largest institution of higher education. Founded in 1911, it has grown steadily from a small civil servants' school to a modern comprehensive university, providing instruction for about 14,000 students in twenty-five faculties. Teaching and research is conducted in social sciences, humanities, law, medicine, natural sciences, engineering and teacher education. It has a campus concentrated around suðurgata street in central reykjavík, with additional facilities located in nearby areas as well as in the countryside.
The university of iceland was founded by the alþingi on 17 june 1911, uniting three former post-secondary institutions: prestaskólinn, læknaskólinn and lagaskólinn, which taught theology, medicine and law, respectively. The university originally had only faculties for these three fields, in addition to a faculty of humanities. During its first year of operation, 45 students were enrolled. ADMISSION & ELIGIBILITY
To be eligible for admission to the university of iceland, you must meet the following requirements:
You must have completed a high school diploma or equivalent exam.
If your native language is not english, you must provide proof of english proficiency. You can do this by submitting toefl scores of at least 79 or ielts scores of at least 6.5.
You must complete an online application form, submit your cv, and pay the application fee.
You must submit a letter of motivation, grade transcripts, two letters of recommendation, and your passport.
Some programs may have additional requirements or entrance exams. For example, programs in medical sciences, economics, and law may have additional requirements.
You must have a bachelor's degree in a subject that is similar to the postgraduate degree you are applying for. Admission requirements may vary between universities in iceland |
