University college dublin (commonly referred to, in ireland, as ucd) (irish: coláiste na hollscoile, baile átha cliath) is a public research university in dublin, ireland, and a member institution of the national university of ireland. With 38,417 students, it is ireland's largest university and among europe's most prestigious.

Ucd originates in a body founded in 1854, which opened as the catholic university of ireland on the feast of st. Malachy with john henry newman as its first rector; it re-formed in 1880 and chartered in its own right in 1908. The universities act, 1997 renamed the constituent university as the "national university of ireland, dublin", and a ministerial order of 1998 renamed the institution as "university college dublin – national university of ireland, dublin"

Originally located at st stephen's green and earlsfort terrace in dublin's city centre, all faculties later relocated to a 133-hectare (330-acre)campus at belfield, six kilometres to the south of the city centre. In 1991, it purchased a second site in blackrock,[8] which currently houses the michael smurfit graduate business school.

A report published in may 2015 asserted that the economic output generated by ucd and its students in ireland amounted to €1.3 billion annually five nobel laureates are among ucd's alumni and current and former staff additionally, four taoiseach (prime ministers) and three irish presidents have graduated from ucd, along with one president of india

ADMISSION & ELIGIBILITY


University college dublin (ucd) has a number of eligibility requirements for undergraduate and graduate programs. These include academic qualifications, english language proficiency, and standardized test scores. 

Academic qualifications

  • Undergraduate: indian students need a minimum of 70–85% in class 12, depending on the subject. 
  • Graduate: applicants need a bachelor's degree with a minimum of second class honors. 
  • Mba: applicants need a bachelor's degree with second class honors, a minimum of three years of professional experience, and a gmat score. 

English language proficiency

  • Applicants need to meet the english language proficiency requirements. 
  • For the mba program, applicants need to take an english language test like ielts, toefl, or duolingo. 

Standardized test scores

  • Standardized tests are not required for all programs, but they are considered. 
  • For the mba program, applicants need to take a gmat score.

  • Students must normally be 17 years of age by january 15 following entry.

SCHOLARSHIP

University college dublin (ucd) offers a number of scholarships for medical students, including postgraduate scholarships and awards for outstanding graduates. 

Postgraduate scholarships 

  • Anatomy postgraduate scholarship: this scholarship includes a tax-free stipend of €18,500 per year, paid monthly. It also covers 100% of the eu rate tuition fees, as well as research training and consumable costs.

Awards for outstanding graduates 

  • Ucd mga distinguished graduate awards: these awards are given to outstanding graduates of the ucd school of medicine. Alumni nominate students for these awards in recognition of their achievements in medical education, research, and clinical practice.

Other scholarships

  • Ucd global scholarships

These scholarships are available for international students who have been offered a place to study at ucd. 

  • Entrance scholar awards

These awards are given to first year students who achieve 560 points or more in their leaving certificate. 

To apply for a scholarship at ucd, you should apply to your chosen program through the ucd application portal as early as possible

 

DOCUMENTS REQUIRED FOR ADMISSION

To be admitted to university college dublin (ucd), you'll need to submit a variety of documents, including:

  • Transcripts: official transcripts from your high school or previous educational institution 
  • English language proficiency test score: a score of 6.5 or higher on the ielts academic version, or a score of 90 or higher on the toefl 
  • Statement of purpose: a personal statement that's 300 words or less 
  • Letters of recommendation: academic or guidance counselor recommendations 
  • Passport: a valid passport that's valid for at least six months after your intended stay in ireland 
  • Health insurance: proof of health insurance that covers your stay in ireland
