ABOUT UNIVERSITY

The royal college of surgeons in ireland (rcsi) is a not-for-profit medical professional and educational institution, which is also known as rcsi university of medicine and health sciences. It was established in 1784 as the national body for the surgical branch of medicine in ireland, with a role in supervision of training, and as of 2021 provides a broad range of medical education in multiple countries.

Rcsi's main campus is situated on st. Stephen's green and york street in central dublin and incorporates schools of medicine, pharmacy and biomolecular sciences, physiotherapy, population health, dentistry and nursing and midwifery. It offers undergraduate and postgraduate education in a number of healthcare fields.

Rcsi is ranked fifth in the world for sdg3 good health and well-being in the impact rankings 2024 the the university impact rankings recognise universities around the world for their social and economic impact based on the united nations' 17 sustainable development goals (sdgs).

ADMISSION & ELIGIBILITY


Dmission eligibility for the royal college of surgeons in ireland (rcsi) depends on the program. 

  • Undergraduate medicine

Applicants must meet the following requirements: 

    • Have a minimum of 480 points in the irish leaving certificate 
    • Have a minimum of an o6/h7 in irish, english, mathematics, and a third language 
    • Have a minimum of a h4 in chemistry and a h4 in either physics or biology 
  • Graduate entry medicine

Applicants must meet the following requirements: 

    • Have a minimum undergraduate cgpa of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale 
    • Have a minimum mcat of 503 or minimum gamsat of 60 
    • Have completed their degree program prior to august of the year of entry 
  • Medical doctorate (md)

Applicants must meet the following requirements: 

    • Have an mb/bao/bch or equivalent medical degree 
    • Have completed a minimum of a one-year internship 
    • Be eligible for full registration with the irish medical council

SCHOLARSHIP

The royal college of surgeons in ireland (rcsi) offers several scholarships for medical students, including the consilio manuque medicine scholarship and the aim high medicine scholarship. 

Consilio manuque medicine scholarship

  • Awarded to the student with the highest combined score on the irish leaving certificate and hpat 
  • Worth €25,000, divided across the duration of the undergraduate program 
  • Open to non-eu students who are self-funding and have been accepted to the graduate entry medicine or direct entry medicine programs 

Aim high medicine scholarship 

  • Open to irish leaving certificate students
  • Part of the ireland healthcare aim high scholarship program

Other scholarships 1916 bursary, traveller and roma communities access scholarship, ireland healthcare aim high graduate entry medicine scholarship, kiran pathak pharmacy scholarship, and uversity scholarship. 

Rcsi also offers scholarships for international medical graduates, including scholarships for general surgery and trauma and orthopedic surgery
