ABOUT UNIVERSITY

Maastricht university (abbreviated as um; dutch: universiteit maastricht) is a public research university in maastricht, the netherlands. Founded in 1976, it is the second youngest of the thirteen dutch universities.

In 2023, 22,976 students studied at maastricht university, 59% of whom were students from outside of the netherlands, with over 4,000 employees.[3] about half of the bachelor's programmes are fully offered in english, while the other half is taught wholly or partly in dutch. Most of the master's and doctoral programmes are in english. Besides traditional programmes, maastricht university also has three honours liberal arts colleges: university college maastricht and the maastricht science programme in the same liberal arts tradition. The satellite university college venlo opened in 2015.

ADMISSION & ELIGIBILITY


Admission requirements at maastricht university vary by program, but generally include academic qualifications, english language proficiency, and relevant work experience. 

Academic qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree: applicants must have a bachelor's degree or equivalent from a recognized university 
  • Dutch diploma: applicants must have a relevant dutch or flemish nvao-accredited diploma 
  • International diploma: applicants must have an international diploma that is accredited by aacsb or equis 
  • English language proficiency: applicants must demonstrate english language proficiency 

English language proficiency 

  • Applicants with a bachelor's or master's degree from an institution that uses english as the medium of instruction automatically meet the english language requirements
  • Applicants whose primary language is not english may need to take an english language exam

Relevant work experience

  • Applicants for the full-time mba program may need to demonstrate relevant work experience 
  • Applicants for certain programs may need to provide a resume or cv 

Other requirements 

  • Applicants may need to provide a copy of their passport, a recent passport picture, and academic transcripts
  • Applicants may need to provide a letter of motivation
  • Applicants may need to provide a credit transfer request

SCHOLARSHIP

Maastricht university (um) offers several scholarships for medical students, including the elisabeth strouven scholarship, the ao fellowship in medical education research, and the um brightlands talent scholarship. 

Elisabeth strouven scholarship 

  • Available to talented students enrolled in the master in global health program
  • Open to students from emerging countries in asia, africa, or south america
  • Applicants must meet the admission requirements for the program and the requirements for a dutch visa

Ao fellowship in medical education research 

  • Part of the she scholarships program, which is for students pursuing higher education in the netherlands
  • Selected fellows conduct research in postgraduate surgical education

Um brightlands talent scholarship 

  • Available to top-performing non-eu/eea students enrolled in a master's program connected to the brightlands campi
  • Scholarship recipients receive a tuition fee waiver and monthly stipend
  • Recipients must participate in the thesis-intership-programme (tip)

DOCUMENTS REQUIRED FOR ADMISSION

To be admitted to maastricht university, you'll need to submit the following documents:

  • Transcripts: high school transcripts and a copy of your most recent grades transcript 
  • Passport: a recent passport picture and a copy of your valid passport 
  • Id: a copy of your eu/eea identity card 
  • Cv: a curriculum vitae or resume 
  • Letters of recommendation: letters of recommendation may be required for some programs 
  • Motivation letter: a motivation letter or essay about the program you're applying for 
  • English test scores: proof of english proficiency, such as a toefl or ielts score 
  • Gmat or gre test: for some programs, you may need to submit a gmat or gre test score 

Applicants who studied outside of the eu/eea may need to pay a handling fee.
