ABOUT UNIVERSITY

The university of lisbon (ulisboa; portuguese: universidade de lisboa) is a public research university in lisbon, and portugal's largest university. It was founded in 1911, but the university's present structure dates to the 2013 merger of the former university of lisbon (1911–2013) and the technical university of lisbon (1930–2013).

university of coimbra, the first portuguese university, was established in lisbon between 1288 and 1290, when dinis i promulgated the letter scientiae thesaurus mirabili, granting several privileges to the students of the studium generale in lisbon, proving that it was already founded on that date. There was an active participation in this educational activity by the portuguese crown and its king, through its commitment of part of the subsidy of the same, as by the fixed incomes of the church. This institution moved several times between lisbon and coimbra, where it settled permanently in 1537.

The current university of lisbon is the result of the merger of two former public universities of lisbon, the former university of lisbon, founded in 1911 and the technical university of lisbon, founded in 1930. The merger process was initiated in 2011 and was made into law on 31 december 2012. As stated on the decree-law no. 266-e/2012, the new university of lisbon began its legal existence on the day the newly elected rector took office, on 25 july 2013.

ADMISSION & ELIGIBILITY

The university of lisbon (ulisboa) has several admission requirements, including english proficiency, high school diploma, and entrance examinations.

English proficiency

The university recommends a minimum b2 level of english proficiency.
This is equivalent to an upper-intermediate level of english.
You can use english proficiency tests or previous studies in english to demonstrate your proficiency.

High school diploma

You need a high school diploma or a legally equivalent qualification.

Entrance examinations

You need to pass the entrance examinations required for your undergraduate program.
The minimum score you need to pass depends on the program.

FEE STRUCTURE

Additional fees

There is also an application fee of €420 for international students.
There is an enrollment and annual registration fee for international students.
There is an academic fee that includes a certificate of registration, enrollment certificate, enrollment statements for social services, and a declaration for a public transport monthly pass.

Living costs

In addition to tuition fees, students should also consider living costs, which include food, housing, and transportation.

Food costs are around €150–200 per month.
Housing costs in ULisboa Residences range from €75.06–€160 per month.
A subway pass costs around €20 per month.

Applications are made online through the Fenix platform
You will need a Campus mail account to apply
There are three application phases, running from May to September
Each course reserves the right to propose different dates

The university of lisbon (ulisboa) requires the following documents for admission:

Identification: a passport or citizen card
Academic records: a bachelor's or master's degree certificate with final average, and a history of curricular units
